What an incredible feat to have over 15,000 members with many great new people and great friends. How are you today? How has /r/Blind help you? Did you help users of /r/blind? Have you learned something new?
Something happening behind the scenes recently is that we are limiting surveys by the Ph.D.'s until we can 100% settle an hourly price of 20 dollars per hour of your time. I will keep everyone updated on this. Some might have sneaked through but not for to much longer. I did not make this sub to be a survey house for Universities. It's made for the community and it's a first we will always commit to. This all came about by one of our members be strung alone 3 months for payment and after payment it pissed me off how long she took the survey and the payment for it. So things will be changing and making this a financial benefit for some of our users in the future.
Again, thank you for helping me and other mods make this place a nice home and we will be making major changes in 2022 that will benefit everyone.
**THE WebAIM / ACCESSIBILITY SURVEY**
*There is ONE survey that might come up later on this quarter, but it's for our benefit and we will see the data live. It's the WebAIM report which I have been struggling with on seeing that the data is skewed. I reached out to them and told them we as a large functioning group have more users and will do a better survey on usage of screen-readers, voiceover, speak, and other things. Still waiting on a response back and hopefully I get a thumbs up from them.*
I will follow up on the last one once I find out more from WebAIM.
To those who don't know WebAIM, WebAIM is responsible on making sites such as REDDIT/GOOGLE.COM and other large sites be more accessible and help develop a better VO application and screen readers like NVDA and JAWS to work better.

Finally joined yesterday after reading for months.
Does that make me number 15,000? :)
Happy to be here and learn from you

You might have been our special #15000... I wish we could find out somehow.

I’m very happy to have this sub. It’s helped me accept my blindness a little easier and not feel so alone. Thank you! Glad that it’s growing.

Yes thanks for all you do for the community/ blind

Well very nice now even more.
And interesting don’t know if I agree about the surveys either. I do it as community service really.
rumster [OP]1 points1y ago
so far the surveys being in one spot has worked out. I've been monitoring this and do let people know that if they have a survey that hasn't received traction to post to the entire group is okay.
TechnicalPragmatist1 points1y ago
I see I should tell the other person then I know one person who’s really been looking for more respondents and people to interview really badly. They posted to one of the threads.
rumster [OP]1 points1y ago
please let them know its Ok. Tell them to say rumster approved it. The survey issues where more towards the PhD's who didn't treat some people in our community with respect and I was done with it.

I see I can have them pm you too she’s doing it on healthcare portals and we’ve been talking about accessibility of those and insurance and healthcare in general.

Is the WAVE survey the WebAIM Screen Reader User Survey or something else? If it's the WebAIM one, 1) they just did one, so presumably they wouldn't do another one for a year or two, and 2) one must distinguish between WAVE (one of their services) and WebAIM (the name of their organization).
Also, I don't agree with your stance on limiting the surveys that are posted here.

At one point we were getting up to 20 or per week, which would have filled the front page and crowded out posts from actual blind members of the sub.

Just so you know what happened. We had 3 different users do 3 to 6 hour surveys for highly prestigious Universities months ago and where being told different things by the PhD's and even ignored. As part of the rule of adding any surveys on here I stated that it's important for these students to make sure they have a full follow through. These surverys are extrememly important to the big picture and I understand about your stance. But trust me this is temporary until we figure out a better way to handle this issue. If you have any ideas please message me!

> WebAIM
Sorry it was WEBAIM. I for some reason had WAVE in my head. They did one in July of last year I thought. I personally find they're survey is off in certain sections.
