Do you use any mask detector app for checking safety of surrounding in this pandemic times? (self.Blind)
submitted by AudibleVisionApp
We are the developers of Audible Vision Android app which is available for free to download. We have created a mode called mask detector, but not sure if low vision or blind individuals really feel any need for this feature?
One user did gave a very positive feedback for this feature who was immuno-compromised. But at a wider scale, we are not sure if the community really needs this feature or not, hence asking the question.

No. I wouldn't use this. I am totally blind, and I have a weakened imune system, and I would not use this. For one thing most masks people wear are useless, and I choose to wear a mask, I don’t care if others choose not to.

Thank you for your response Gracie.

I've been blindsided (very literally) by people getting in my face without wearing a mask, so I understand the need for this. That being said, I wouldn't want to constantly scan my surroundings.

I guess one could use this feature when entering a room?

Agreed, one cannot keep scanning all time. But when a delivery guy comes at door step or you have to enter a room (example waiting room) and to check if people following the the norms; in those instances this can come handy.

Yeah, that makes sense.

It seems helpful, but also kinda cumbersome. I don't really want to walk around with my phone out pointed at people. It does seem like a decent idea though!

Yes, and certainly having some small sensor gadget would be more easy to use. But for now, if you want for your safety, atleast you have a option at touch of your phone :)

I would be very comfortable having this on my phone as a "just in case" type of measure. That said, I probably would not be hard pressed to pay for the feature.

Agreed. And yes our app is free to download :)

Not sure if I’d use this either.
