What are people doing to stop their glasses/sunglasses fogging up from masks and winter? (self.Blind)
submitted by ShadowRegalia
I live in a pretty cold climate. My mask has been venting the warm air towards my glasses/sunglasses, which makes things much harder to see. Anyone have any advice?

Not advice. But I usually keep mine foggy or smudgy because it bothers other people. And I find it amusing.

Edit: wife says Walmart vision center sells Cat Crap anti fog spray.

You can use tape to seal the gap along the top half of the mask.

Use masks that have the little metal strip across the nose for a better fit, then have the mask high enough so the top of the mask is just under the bottom rim and bridge of your glasses.

Best method I've found, especially as someone with a big bushy beard that makes getting a good seal difficult

I get so sick of it. And also my glasses are all smudged and scratched where even WITHOUT a mask they are foggy looking and I haven't gotten around to getting new ones yet.

The only thing that seems to help is a better fitting mask. Best bet is to wear a well fitted surgical mask or N95 where there’s a seal under your eyes. That’s something that you want regardless given how contagious omicron is. My glasses don’t fog up when I wear an N95.

I got this anti-fog spray for a friend a while back, it seems to have worked pretty well for him! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PBCZ7C6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_SZ4ZBT6FC9DD9WDY25MW

an old SCUBA technique is to wash the lenses with toothpaste.

step 1: wash the lenses like regular.
step 2: rub some toothpaste on each side of the lenses. Make sure you get an eaven coat.
step 3: wash off the toothpaste in cold water. Be careful not to scrub the lenses. You just want to wash off all the extra toothpaste.
Step 4: set down and let them air dry on a clean towle.
Step 5: Put on face and be amazed by glasses that wont fog up.

Notes:: You can forgo toothpaste and order a no-fog cleaning solution from your local dive shop or online. The stuff works really well. It just doesnt have a smell. So if you want a no smell solution go for that. But if you want to have glasses that smell minty fresh or firey cinnimon then use toothpaste.

If you’re outside, and distanced, can you just pull the mask down off your nose until you’re closer to someone or inside? If it’s difficult for you to tell when someone is close this may be difficult.

Some may still say you need to keep a seal at all times, in which case there are a few things to try.

1. Masks with the metal strip in the nose definitely work better for me. They may work less well for someone whose nose has a low bridge.
2. Medical tape across the top, taped inside or outside, may help. I had middling success with this.
3. Others have suggested N95 masks. Those may be hard to come by.
4. Double masking might help: surgical mask on the inside, cloth mask on the outside. Rather than use the ear loops as ear loops, you could try pinning the loops to a hat, head band, scarf, or something else so that the mask pulls right across the top.

For a while I’d carry my glasses case in my jacket and simply take off my glasses when I was outside during winter. That was better than foggy glasses. Now I pull down the mask below my nose when I’m outside and keep my distance.

I’ve become a better cane user since the start of the pandemic for precisely this reason. I don’t have any good advice, because I just kind of live with it.

I haven't really found anything. I'll often step to the side when walking to give the fog a chance to clear. I tried masks that said they wouldn't fog glasses but none have worked so far. I do find it's better with KN95 masks which are suggested now since they have a bar at the top that seals it closer to my nose.
