Being blind doesn’t bother me, but nan I wish I could read manga and comics! (self.Blind)

I know Graphic Audio has adapted a few series, but their collection is quite limited considering how vast the manga and comic worlds are.

Me too-I enjoy consuming content that’s based on manga, and a lot of the time I feel like I’m missing out. Watching anime I’m obviously missing the visuals due to my vision loss but besides some fan dubs of manga recorded on YouTube I feel like I miss out entirely

Yep. I don’t think I’ve seen a single audio described anime. You can make a lot of inferences on what’s going on, just because the characters are so vocal and even vocalize their facial expressions in a way. But as someone that’s really into fantasy worlds, I want to know more about the landscape, the world, the animals, ETC. if you’ve watched Magi, you’ll know what I mean.

I agree completely-watching shonen anime for example, characters often monologue their abilities and moves so we know what’s going on during a fight, but the surroundings can be left out, which sometimes indicate something that moves the plot along.

I went totally blind in 2015 after living a life full of sight and part of my journey was in comic books. I collected comic books since I was a young boy. Fast forward to today and I am totally blind and I still love the comic book genre but I cannot see any of the images as well. I have pivoted to audio comic book media. Audible has a selection of comic book titles that are available to Amazon prime members.
I am currently listening to Wolverine weapon X. It is a very graphic story but I would not recommend for young people. A lot of blood!

In addition to audible I listen to many audio drama podcasts. Many of these podcast feature the superheroes and stories and villains that I enjoy very much.
Below I have listed a few of my favorites but there is far more to be found if you journey over to the audio drama sub Reddit.
Batman the audio adventures,
Featuring top notch Hollywood voice acting and sound effects.

This show is for marvels wolverine.
Again a very graphic show not recommended for younger listeners.

X-Men the audio drama. This is a fan made podcast that has very decent voice acting and some familiar X-Men stories.
https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/x-men-the-audio-drama/id902813725

Genesis Avalon.
Very good production quality.
A young woman gains superpowers and needs to learn how to use them.

These are just a few of the comic book audio drama podcasts that are available. There are many more known and lesser known superhero characters out there. If you have any questions or would like more recommendations I would highly recommend going over to the audio drama sub Reddit. The people there are very friendly and they will help you out with any requests for podcasts that you may want.
Stay safe
Happy new year!

I'm not completely blind, just to the point I can't read comics anymore either. I miss being able to draw too.

Hmm, anyone watched Detective conan / Case closed anime here?

A big fan of that.
the-cat1513 1 points 1y ago
Just the anime. I think they only translated it into my language until chapter 300 or something like that.
ginsenshi 3 points 1y ago
Same here, before my vision went I could read manga with magnification.

I sure do miss a good yaoi Romance.

Same with japanese only anime, not dubbed into english.

Same. I’ve never been able to read it but it sounds so much fun. I really enjoy the comic-based movies, a.k.a. Spider-Man, and the avengers movies. But I really want to read the original comics.

We have had for over 50 years in Germany 'Lustiges Taschenbuch', which is something apparently unique to Germany. We have a vast array of 'Entenhausen' comics weekly, books, etc that are from the Disney Donald Duck family. https://www.lustiges-taschenbuch.de/ausgaben/alle-ausgaben/ltb-521

I went to a retrospective a few years ago, and thought 'WOW, I could actually read that as a kid?!' I certainly can't read it now, nor appreciate the artwork.

I do see that they are available on kindle although I doubt most of the vast library is an option. I'm going to download a sample to see if it's an option. (I do have Moabit, which is a visual novel from Volker Kutscher on my kindle, and am able to enjoy it)

Perhaps there is a similar thing for the comics and manga etc you enjoy?

I feel the same way about the Yugioh Manga. I’ve heard they have much more depth than the TV show. It also physically pains me I can’t read berserk.

I’m completely blind and about 3 years ago, I got into watching anime. Recently, I got interested in reading manga, but I couldn’t find any app or software to read it to me. Then I found this app called Talkie OCR, you do have to have a physical copy of the book for it to read it out loud though.

This is one of the things I miss most! Most of what I read as a teen was manga, and it was heartbreaking to slowly but all too quickly lose my ability to do so. I’m so glad that they finally adapted the whole of Fruits Basket into a dubbed anime. I literally have boxes of manga under my bed that I can no longer read. It always frustrated me to hear everyone raving about how the manga is so much better—especially with FMA.

the FMA brotherhood is said to be more faithful to the manga
