This is interesting. I’ve read about these retinal prosthetics in the past and the goal seemed to be to have microchips basically function as retinal cells. The limitation was this produced extremely rudimentary, low resolution vision. It says in this article that this is actually stimulating the retina itself. My only question with that is, as somebody with a degenerative retinal disease, what happens when my retina is too far gone?

If the retina is too far gone, then it likely wouldn't work. The chips basically work by electrically stimulating the retina cells. It would depend on the extent of the disease, so a doctor would have to do a few tests to see.

This sounds very similar to the Argus II system. I would be curious what improved have been made for this system.
