DAISY Reader Apps (self.Blind)
submitted by dankswed
Hello!

I work at a non-profit related to people with vision loss.

My colleagues and I are wondering if there are apps (iOS or Android) that people use for DAISY book reading. We know about Dolphin EasyReader and Voice Dream Reader.

Do any of you have other apps you like to use? And/or do you have other formats that you like to use?

Thank you all!

My app Speech Central supports DAISY books on iOS and Android. It is also completely free for the blind.

For iOS it is available here: $1

For Android it is available here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.labsiisoftware.speechcentral

I use iOS's speak screen feature with easy reader to take advantage of the Siri voices if I have to use a DAISY full-text publication and don't have access to Braille.
Voice dream is also great.
The only regular supplier of DAISY I come across though is our local talking books in the UK, and the DAISY-ness of them is useless to me really: the chapters are mp3's.

Sometimes use an app called Daisylezer, think it’s only in the Netherlands but don’t know

I just use epub these days ore regular formats I find them on mainstream stuff and get them and read with a braille display.

The other format I use that is specialized is the braillle one brf.

Hmm, let me share the best of all, it's called bookworm, opensource read it all app for windows from blindpandas. It supports like a ton of file formats, and works really well with screen readers.

$1

On android, some of the lesser known apps are simplereading and goread. I don't use those 2 though. Easyreader gets the job done for me.

the OP specifically asked iOS/Android, though ...

Oops! Totally forgot that part.

Sorry.

Edit: Goread and simplereading is for android, so that's that.

There is a new-ish (free) option called $1. It is available for Windows 10, MacOS and Linux. It can read ePUBs and DAISY files.
