braille with ios (self.Blind)
submitted by themmama
Hi all,

I feel so frustrated with using braille on my iPhone; I'm almost ready to ditch ios altogether. The only reason I'm not is that I am primarily a braille-only user, and I know that access with android is not as good.

I constantly have to restart my phone, lock and unlock it and repair my display. I'm using a focus 40, and I have 2 of them that behave the same. I also have a focus 14, which also does this. Here is a list of issues I'm having, and any advice on what to do is welcome. Please don't suggest repairing the display because I have done that many times with the same results. Please don't so suggest I call or write apple accessibility because I have done that also.

1. I can barely write anything more than a few lines without my display freezing. This happens in the mail app, Twitterrific, Facebook, MS word, and docs. The only way to fix the issues is to lock and unlock my iPhone.
2. When an alert message comes up on display, sometimes it freezes on that message, and I cannot move the product or do anything with it. It locks completely, and the only way to fix it is to restart the show and my iPhone.

These two issues have made it almost unbearable to use braille. Yes, I feel incredibly frustrated and don't know what to do. Any advice is most welcome. Like. !

These issues seem to have cropped up with recent iOS updates for some reason. All I can suggest is to try and update to newer versions, and hope that it resolves eventually. I do not know what might have been done to inadvertently caused these things, but hopefully they will be fixed soon.

I'm not a Braille user so I have no idea about the state of Braille support on iOS, however there's one thing you don't seem to have tried, which is to pair your display with another iOS device to check whether it's a problem with the Bluetooth radio on your phone.

As for the notifications, you can either try to enable Focus mode in Control Center or disable notification banners completely in Settings.

Just wanted to chime in in support of Android, works fine from my point of view.
