3d puzzles? (self.Blind)
submitted by DariusA92
I'm really bored and kind of tired of being at my computer all the time, so I'm searching for some non-electronic hobbies to get to. While browsing an online shop, I found these interesting sounding metal and wooden puzzles that are supposedly 3d. They seem to be made of several sheets of metal or wood out of which the pieces are cut out. You are supposed to pull out the pieces and assemble them. They are usually models of famous buildings, sailing boats and the like. I would love to get some, because they are both fun and kind of educational, seeing that I'm totally blind and have no idea what these buildings look like. But I'm not sure how accessible they are. Have any of you ever used one of those? I'm guessing that the wooden ones are probably more accessible, the metal kind seems to need folding and stuff.

Try smiths puzzles
They're like twisted bits of metal that you have to work out how to get apart without forcing it

You might like some of the puzzles made by a company called Hanayama. The company makes all sorts of 3D puzzles. Many of them are made from polished stainless steel or chromed metal and have unique shapes, and they seem almost artistic to me. Other 3D puzzles by Hanayama are oddly twisted bits of metal. The point is always to take these things apart and be able to put them back together. My favorite line by Hanayama is a series of chess pieces: the pawn, the rook, the knight, the bishop, the queen, and the king. The goal is to disassemble each piece to fish out a very small coin that‘s hidden inside. The pieces in the chess series are somewhat expensive for puzzles such as this, but they are nicely made. They also come in various skill levels.

Another series you might like is called Original 3D Crystal Puzzle by a company called Bepuzzled. These have been around for decades. Bepuzzled makes lots of these puzzles in various shapes and skill levels. The shapes range from a dolphin to a castle to a skull to Snoopy on his doghouse…you name it. I’ve never done one of the puzzles, but they look interesting. The shape or form builds up from individual sheets of hard plastic.

An added bonus about the puzzles by Hanayama and Bepuzzled is that they are all relatively small and look very nice on a shelf when they’re assembled. If you had a few of them in your living room, I’m sure your sighted friends would compliment them. And then you could challenge them to solve one or two.

Have fun shopping!

I haven't tried these, but the Braille Superstore sells some puzzles that may fit your needs.
