How to unstuck my ID cane (self.Blind)
submitted by [deleted]
Hello, so I have recently got my ID cane stuck for the first time and I have no idea how to get it to collapse I have tried all the Techniques that my Vision and Mobility teacher has taught me but none of them seem to work. I also have asked my mom and she couldn't do it either. I would really like to know how to prevent this from happening in the future.

Haven’t really had this problem with my graphite cane, but when my aluminum one got stuck, I’d fold as much as possible, and stick it in the freezer for a while. That always seemed to do the trick. Depending on how cold it is where you are, you could maybe just leave it outside for a while, instead.

ID canes still use the older joints, while the newer canes have joints that as much less likely to get stuck. The freeze is one option. Other times, brute strength helps.

Once you get it unstuck, adding a little bit of lubricant helps to prevent it from sticking again. A squirt of WD-40 works.

Hot water might do the trick on the joint

Hi, the ID cane is not intended to be used as a mobility tool. It is supposed to be held in front, visable so that people can identify the blind individual.
You'll basically have to straighten the cane's joint. Perhaps roling the cane and finding the bent, so you can step on it and streighten it.
