Tips for using TalkBack (self.Blind)
submitted by BlindWizard
Does anybody have any tips or resources for using TalkBack on Android? I have enjoyed using my new Android as far as accessibility goes, but could really use some tips on the TalkBack features as to get better using it. I have some usable vision left but it is fading and will eventually only be able to use TalkBack.

I personally have my verbosity preset set to low, I have cover proximity sensor to stop it from talking turned off, and under the developer settings in the advanced section I have reduced window announcement delay turned on. Also, definitely get used to the one finger gestures that are usable with talkback active as they help navigating around your device be a little bit quicker, I would absolutely recommend turning the three button navigation back on if your phone doesn't do that by default, and I would recommend upping the speech rate of the screen reader so it doesn't take 9 hours to read one sentence.

What is verbosity?

Verbosity is the settings related to what it announces, or how it announces things. Can't be 100% sure the voice to text is writing down the word I intending, but it's in the talkback settings right below audio settings and then within it there's a preset choice and mine is on low.

My favorite tip I got was that you can change the voice. I have mine set in UK English. It makes it so much more barrable than the US English version. The settings on how to get there are probably different per phone make. But I'm sure if you have TalkBack enabled the menu for it is the same. Swipe down without letting up then right to access it. I'm no expert. But if you have any questions feel free to ask. If I have the knowledge I'll help if I can.
