A Huge Thank You to this Community (self.Blind)
submitted by philipmasters18
A couple of months ago I posted on this subreddit revolving around a project I was doing that would actually try and help meet user needs: $1

I got loads of really lovely and useful feedback from members of this community and I am very grateful for it, it has helped me enormously! I also just wanted to say that I haven't disappeared or anything, it's just been a very busy exam season so I've fallen behind on building the device. However, I am now working on it most days and figured I should give updates on this thread given that the input from this subreddit is the reason the project was able to begin at all.

And of course, if you have any comments, concerns or are just intrigued I will continue to reply to comments and messages and such. Thanks again to all of you!

Glad to hear that you are still keeping with it. Usually some good ideas for technologies for the blind come and then disappear. Hope to see your device in the market one day.

"technologies for the blind come and then disappear."

This is so true. Ex: After the initial creation there is no incentive to update. We had the same problem with teacher grading programs. I loved a previous program because I could 1) change the font size and 2) could split screen in a way that I could pull the grade to be entered right next to the student name (fewer mistakes in entry and private view for each kid). Then, that company doesn't update, they are out and it is subcontracted out to a new company which KEEPS NONE OF THE GOOD STUFF. Nowadays the programs are admin friendly, allowing admin to collect "hostile statistics" and very unfriendly design for teachers... especially visually impaired ones like me.

I hope whatever is invented is created in a way to be built on, not constantly starting from scratch, which is very hard on the blind, who often take a long time to master each program iteration.

Thank you!!

It’s true I’ve seen many assistive tech solutions come and go. It’s unfortunate.

How is your project coming along?
