Where to find information about using Talkback for Android smartphones? (self.Blind)
submitted by Guimple
Hey, people!

I am glad this community exists and I am happy to see all the support you all receive and give here.

I am sight impaired and I can use smartphone and computer by applying zoom to it. It works very neatly. However, my mom is blind and recently I taught her how to use a smartphone with Talkback. I don't know much, but we managed and she now can talk to her friends through WhatsApp and listen to YouTube videos whenever she wants, which makes me happy every time I see her doing that.

But there are some things she asks that I simply don't know how to solve or if there is a possible solution. For example, sometimes, when she is recording an audio message on WhatsApp, Talkback starts to talk in the middle of it and I don't know how to prevent this from happening. So I come here, asking you for good places, like sites, YouTube channels, or anything of the sort where I can learn more about these things and help her better.

Thank you for your answer and I wish you all a very pleasant day!

Here's a youtube channel: https://www.youtube.com/c/BlindAndroidUsers

They have a website; I'd recommend contacting them on their and asking your question; hopefully you get a response.

Just tell your mum to cover the proximity sensor with her palm, just hover it above it, without touching that should pause talk back whilst it is speaking during the record

Does she use any kind of headset? I know for me when I use my Bluetooth headset TalkBack will not start running when I'm using the voice messaging option.

She normally doesn't. Will test it out though. Thank you!

Try holding both volume keys for a few seconds. It should switch off TalkBack.. then same again to switch it on..

That would prevent Talkback from speaking, but it would also make it very hard for her to find the option to record an audio

That’s right, start the message turn off talkback when she’s done turn it back on.
