Configuring Discord for Accessibility? (self.Blind)
submitted by ThisIsBenSilver
Hello everyone!

I am in a discord community for a very specific purpose and I know there are a few blind people I'd like to invite... but I would feel like a jerk inviting them and then having it be useless.

I've seen very mixed things about Discord's accessibility, and there don't seem to be many resources.
Does anyone have any advice, insight, configuration suggestions, or even bots to install?
I'm very technical, so even if there is a Bot that isn't specifically for accessibility, but can help in some way, I would love to explore that.
Thank you!

Discord accessibility is quite good now. No special configurations or bots should be necessary.

One thing that annoys me is using emojies to name servers/server categories. If emojies is just for eye candy at least use them after words.

Bad example

🔺👉Fun zone

What is read by software:

Red triangle pointed up backhand index pointing right fun zone

Gets annoying. :\]

I use discord daily on my Pixel 4 running Android 12, no real issues whatsoever with it, there are some settings you may or may not want to tweak regarding autoplaying of animations / gifts but otherwise it works fine. I just noticed yesterday that somewhere in one of the more recent updates it started reading text off images when open ing them in full screen similar to how Facebook generates text for images, it did not used to do that and I am pretty happy to find it will do that now.

I use discord literally every day on my phone and more days than not on my mac. It's absolutely useable on both platforms, iOS moreso than mac though.

It has definitely gotten a lot more accessible fortunately.

I use Discord every day on my iPhone and Windows laptop. It works really well.
