How to listen to Wikipedia with NVDA? (self.Blind)
submitted by tace8
Hey, I've been learning the basics of NVDA, but have had trouble listening to Wikipedia.

I can navigate around the page reasonably well, the problem is when I try to listen to the text, it says 'link' every time there is one. Usually this wouldn't be a problem in say a news article where there are few links. However, Wikipedia is jam packed with hyperlinks. I'm sure you're aware, but more or less when I try to listen to it it sounds like "Link, The United States is a link, country with a link population of 330 million. It is located in link, North America and borders link Canada and link Mexico". As you have probably heard or can imagine yourself, the 'link' spam in the audio is very distracting and disrupts the flow of listening to the article. I was wondering if anyone is aware of or had come up with any fixes to this? Thanks.

1. Open the NVDA menu
2. Go to preferences
3. Go to settings
4. Go to the document formatting category
5. Remove the checkmark next to the links option

This will disable the announcement of links. If you want to keep this change permanently, make sure to go back to the NVDA menu and choose save configuration.

You can quickly toggle the reporting of links with NVDA key + grave sign. My problem is all the end notes in the page. I whish there were an option to remove them from text.

there must be some javascript you can run in a browser's addressbar to strip those tags from the document somewhere. Surprised there's not a bookmarklet for it

what's a grave sign?
DariusA92 3 points 1y ago
The key on the left side of number one on the top row.

\`? Does nothing for me, maybe you set it yourself? :)

Ah, sorry. Probably I set it myself. I've been using NVDA for a long time.

I don’t use NVDA but I know exactly what you’re talking about. If anyone knows the fix for iOS I’d appreciate it!

Settings, accessibility, voiceover, verbosity, then set links to sound or nothing.
