For those who commute to workl, how many apps do you use before you get in? (self.Blind)
submitted by retrolental_morose
Just wondering how typical mass-app usage is of an average workday morning.

I use a taxi app to book my transport to work. Whilst waiting for it to come I read a bit of mail, check my diary, check the progress on the taxi. When I get in I catch up on RSS, read an article someone on the work Chat sends me, browse Reddit, read a bit of a Kindle book, call into a Meet because traffic, reply to more email whilst the Meet is ongoing, close a few tickets from the night before and Whatsapp a friend.

I might not touch my phone for the next 3 or 4 hours at work, but that's already 10 apps, or thereabouts.

Well, I work from home now with a potential office return date of 2023, but pre-pandemic I would only need either Transit or Lyft. I'd use Transit to see the departure times for my local buses and trains, and would use Lyft if I didn't feel like bothering with public transit or was running late to the office. I might use the Live Bart app to quickly hear what the next Bart trains are at the station I'm in if I can't hear or miss the audible announcement.

Edit: Oh, you meant all the apps I would use before commuting... in that case, I'd check email, check messages and channels in Slack, mess about here in BaconReader for reddit, check tweets and news in Twitterific, Check any notifications in Facebook, text messages, WhatsApp, etc., and would use my Baking Scale app to measure out my beans and water for my first coffee of the day. During commute, I'd still poke around Reddit using BaconReader, chat with people in Kik, keep tabs on Slack, and perhaps listen to music or an audiobook in Audible or Bard. I try to stay attentive to my commute/train surroundings and prefer to set something to listen to instead of having my phone up and out during my trip.

There is no routine for me, so it would vary very much by the day.
