I have developed a tool that may help blind people navigate their PC (self.Blind)
submitted by adirh3
Hey everyone,

I have been developing an app called "Fluent Search" for more than a year, it's a search application that helps you control your PC more efficiently by searching in programs for UI elements using accessibility features of Windows or by using OCR to search in the entire screen.

Recently I have been told by users from here that Fluent Search may be especially useful for blind users, and with the help of them I added almost full support for speech mode and SFX indications.

The app is still in a beta state, but it's quite stable now. I am sharing it here hoping the app may be useful for some of you, it's completely free to use.

Here is the download link - $1 (Windows only)

When opened for the first time, there will be a brief tutorial asking you to enable Speech Mode by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Shift+1.

Feel free to ask me anything or share any feedback!

Finally! I am using Fluent Search for about 6 months and I love it. I think I have enough knowledge about the app so feel free to ask me as well.

What do you use it for? I'm going to download it, but want to understand more about it.

I basically replaced start menu with it. It might require time to get used to, but gives so much in advance.

Interesting not on windows much these days but fascinating.

For folks wondering just what this is about, I will try to explain. It's a tad hard to give a specific use case as the app does quite a number of things that both are, and are not, related.

If there are any mac users here, it's very similar in use and execution to Alfred.

So, the basic idea of the app is searching for stuff. You hit a hotkey, start typing and results come up, similar to how the Windows start menu works. However, that's where the similarities end, as FluentSearch goes further than that with both the things it searches through, as well as the actions you can perform on the results.
The app can search through files and apps, like the start menu, but also through currently open windows and tabs, processes, UI elements within applications, the clipboard (which it keeps a history of should you want to) and , through plugins, it can do things like translate text as well, all through a keyboard-operated interface.

can you provide more detail please?

Sure, Fluent Search lets you search in many resources in your PC, like apps, running apps, ui elements, browser bookmark and history, and more.
Fluent Search is opened using a hotkey and is very customizable.
The new Speech mode is a dedicated implementation for blind users that makes it more accessible.
One of the main usages is to search for UI elements like buttons, links, tabs inside all running apps, and then instantly invoke them.
Let me know if you have any questions.

What's more, you can search for files, directories, perform calculations and more, thanks to plugins. There is a plugin for translation, wiki or searching your clipboard history.
