Sleep (self.Blind)
submitted by Snookerdee3
I struggle with nightly insomnia. Do any of you struggle with this as well or issues with sleep? I am totally blind and I’m also curious if there is a link between blindness and trouble sleeping?

I can fall asleep fine - practically pass out as soon as my head hits the pillow sometimes - but I mostly struggle staying asleep. For example, I'll fall asleep at 9pm and wake up at 2am and can't fall back asleep for the life of me and nothing seems to help. My brain just thinks it's daytime.

Holy shit this exact thing happens to me I swear to God times are slightly different but I’m so glad I’m not the only one I’ve never considered it being that my body doesn’t know if it’s day or night time honestly normally I just wake up and then I get like 100 dots going through my head it’s really annoying and I also can never seem to fall asleep after I wake up I’m so glad I’m not the only one

This is because blind people have a messed up circadian rhythm.

Yeah. I wonder why it happens, or what we can do about it... It's so frustrating and damaging for quality of life.

Yep, same here. That makes 3 of us. Glad I'm not alone as well.

Glad I'm not the only one. Maybe it could be anxiety, though I'm not diagnosed with an anxiety disorder I do tend to overthink a lot.

There is a condition that goes along side blindness. Talk to your doctor they can help with medication. General doctor will help. Even though it's a eye condition it's more body clock being thrown off by being blind

i don't have it but what was explained to me by someone in my support group is that its spiritic sleep schedule due to internal clock not knowing if its day time or night time. prolonged state of staying awake then normal, could extend to days in the extreme. and difficulty staying asleep for the full amount.

You may have non-24-hour sleep-wake disorder.

Yes and I even have a thread about this myself.
