> What bothers you about blind characters in media?

Other than the fact everyone in media wants to write one?

If you are a writer coming to reddit for advice you probably are not very good

I came on here because this sub happened to pop onto my homepage and I don't know anyone who is blind or visually impaired that I can ask. I just want to do the community justice. I know a lot about inaccurate and flat out obnoxious representation as a disabled person myself and I didn't want to contribute to that.

This sub gets hammered everyday proclaimed writers and publishers, movie directors, surveys etc.

Imagine if you suddenly went blind, a life changing event that forces you to adjust your entire life. You are isolated, depressed even. You finally get the hang of using the different accessablility apps such as screen readers available to you, and you find a little piece of the internet where you can talk to other people who are going through the same thing. You painstakenly navigate using a screenreader, trying to grasp all the little quirks and commands to even get it funtional.

Then instead of finding a much needed connection or piece of advice to get you through the day, you have to fumble over all these posts every single day.

Like an advertisement that you cant skip, because you have to have it read outloud to you to know it is even an ad. Picture having to read in detail every ad you scroll past, thats what this is.

If you are curious, read through the posts and interact in a meaningful way. Make some friends, or use the search funtion and do your homework. But please don't add to the spam as this same post gets asked everyday. I get wanting to represent in a meaningful way, but when the community is poked every day by the same questions it gets frustraiting, and at the end of the day they just want a place to relax.

I'm really very sorry that you have to deal with that and that this sub gets flooded with these questions every day. I'll remove the post out of respect for that, because I understand that this clearly isn't what you want from this sub. However, it is in the description that this is also a place for curious people who have questions. I interpreted that to mean that this is both a place for blind people to interact, and for sighted people to learn. I guess I misunderstood the purpose, which I apologize for. But I do wish you had explained that to me first rather than insult my writing, which you have never seen. I get it, you were/are upset and fed up with these types of posts, but I really hope in the future you will give people the benefit of the doubt in situations like these.
