Hey everybody! I just got an iPad to better serve the students I work with (orientation and mobility / vision rehab therapy). I was wondering if you had recommendations for apps that have helped you (or your children!) / are accessible to my blind / low vision kiddos.

Thank you! I have those! Just trying to see if there were more out there!

All the sighted specialists I've worker with get iPads. The blind people relying on VoiceOver get iPhones. The GPS and camera are just far easier to manipulate in a device a fifth the size for many of us, I guess.

Thanks for the imput! I currently work with children and none of them have phones and are low vision, so j was thinking an iPad may be large enough for them to see games or something

Oh absolutely makes sense from a low vision perspective - just worth keeping in mind as they age, sight worsens etc.

as a teacher myself, I'd say it's just as important to encourage familiarity with the native iOS or iPadOS stuff as to look for other apps. The number of people who come to me not knowing how to flag emails, put things in the calendar, who haven't even heard of Braille Screen Input etc is just astounding. As BVI people the more efficient we are with our technology the more engaged we can be with the world around us. I literally saw a student last week scrolling through a month of emails rather than using the search, and that's as much a silly thing to do whether you can see or not.

Voice dream reader, voice dream scanner, cash app, blind square, blindfold game apps there are so many of those,
Look on applevis.com in their app directory in the IOS section.

Microsoft Soundscape, although that does depend on the kid's ages (and if you have a cellular connection. Wifi works, but you can't travel as easily).
