Good safe easy razor suggestions for shaving the face (self.Blind)
submitted by BlindGayDoll
So to my fellow blind people out there who need to shave their face what are some good razors y’all recommend? Because currently right now I’m using a Harry’s razor and it seems to be very hit or miss like sometimes it gets the job done but then occasionally I’ll spend like 30 minutes trying to make sure I get a really good shave and then once I’m done and I’m applying aftershave I feel a bunch of random spots that I know I went over but there’s still hair there and I’m even going with an against the grain. I really like them though because I’ve never cut myself using them but I’m wondering if maybe there’s anything else out there similar that works better or just any suggestions

Get a double-edge or safety razor. Trust me, just about any one of them is going to be better for you than the cartridge crap.

1. Less razor burn, less ingrown hairs, just less irritation in general. Well, if you shave with the right angle and no pressure, at least. This is because multiple blades are actually worse for your skin, especially since they cut the hair beneath it rather than on top.
2. Much cheaper in the long run, because while the razor itself does cost more, it will last a long time due to being all metal, and afterwards all you need to buy is blades, which are about 20 cents apiece.
3. Better for the environment, since most razors come in cardboard packaging, as do the blades, which themselves can be recycled once you've collected enough.
4. An enjoyable shave. No, really. Sure, it may take a touch longer, but it rewards you for the effort. And if you decide to get a brush and a good shaving soap, well heck, you'll actually look forward to it!

As for which one you should get? Depends on what you want, really. Do you want something heavier, so that you can comfortably let the weight do the job and not be tempted to press down, or do you need something more nimble? Do you prefer a shorter handle, or a longer one? Might be worth doing your own research. But you could also get on of the common starter choices, like the Muhle R89 or Merkur 34C, and experiment with those. Perhaps you'll find you'd prefer something else (I started with Merkur 23C but have since bought a Braveheart because it's too light and mild), but many people love their first razor and see no need to replace it (which doesn't stop them from building up a collection ...).

Here's one tutorial that I'd say is fairly descriptive, and there's a lot of others out there: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ps88RU_BXlA

The double blade safety raizer works great.

I get my razors from Dollar shave club, I use the six blade cuz I have significant scarring on my neck and a couple spots on my face where fewer blades can get caught which is a problem. Haven't had any issues with it cutting me, and it gets pretty close I'm pretty obsessive about that as well.

A similar post from a few days ago had some helpful suggestions along with mine. I mentioned the shaving gear that I use and I also gave a linked to a YouTube channel to a guy who does everything shaving. he is sighted, but that shouldn’t matter. i’m a safety razor person. I don’t really care for the cartridge razors with 4 or 5 razors since for me, that’s more marketing than anything else, but different strokes for different folks. Anyway, give that other post a look. https://reddit.com/r/Blind/comments/sjrc1t/visually_impaired_and_trying_to_shave_my_face/

I like to use a Schick Quattro. It works well for shaving against the grain in most areas. It'll do legs, but thicker or more dense hairs will get caught easily and you need to wash it out a lot. I've been doing laser hair reduction to just get rid of the fuzz permanently.

A lot of people are really enamored by safety razors, so that might work as well. Looks like people have already contirbuted a ton of info here for them.

I use an electric Philips razor. It’s faster and I don’t cut myself in the process.
