Fusion G Problem (self.Blind)
submitted by RainyVariation

Hello,

I am having an issue with using Fusion software on Windows 10 where my “G” key will stop working seemingly at random. I can fix it by hitting Windows + G, but it’s difficult to get writing done when it happens since I get no feedback that it’s happening, I only notice when I get a bunch of spelling errors. Has anyone had this problem, or, even better, does anyone know how to fix it?

For some context, Fusion is a Freedom Scientific program that combines JAWS screen reader with the ZoomText magnifier. I use the magnifier and the screen reader at the same time, but mainly rely on the screen reader. I called Freedom Scientific with this problem, but they told me it was a problem with Microsoft’s Xbox Gamebar and refused to help further.

I’ve tried a bunch of things to fix it, but it keeps coming back. Amongst the thing’s I’ve tried (all of which seem like they worked, but do not):

\- Disabling everything related to Xbox, Gamebar, or Gaming in Windows settings

\- Using Windows PowerShell to remove Xbox and Gamebar

\- Using O & O AppBuster to do the same

\- Going into the registry and disabling Xbox and Gamebar

\- Going into the registry and adding a script to disable the “G” hotkey

Any thoughts on how else I can fix this or where I can turn? It’s difficult to explain to technicians that aren’t familiar with accessible tech, so I worry that if I pay for some sort of extended support from Microsoft, they won’t be able to fix it. Any help would be welcome.

If you don't get an answer here, try contacting the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk. Some people swear by them; other people swear never to use them again; but this is a problem that Microsoft created, so they should be alerted to its existence if they do not already have a solution.

Thanks, I never heard of the Microsoft Disability Answer Desk, I'll look into that.
