PLEASE READ - POSTING SURVEYS (CORPORATE/SCHOOLS) - QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY? (self.Blind)
submitted by AutoModerator
Many people want to help the blind community by creating new apps or technology. That's awesome! Others are writing stories or making films with blind characters and want to ask a blind person's perspective. That's great, too! This thread is the place where the ones who want to help or learn can connect with the blind and visually impaired people who don't mind answering questions, filling out surveys, or being interviewed. We're putting it in a single, stickied thread for everyone's convenience. Most of the regulars here come for the company. r/Blind is a place where we feel accepted, a place where we fit in with the only other people who understand what life is like for us. It's our place to rant and to celebrate, to vent and to compare notes. It's where we grieve the loss of our eyesight and encourage each other to do our best. We don't come here to answer questions from people who assume we're the blind version of r/AskReddit. Moving all the questions to this thread frees up our sub for the more personal and heartfelt posts.

This is our first week doing this so please be patient if we need to make adjustments.

**How it works:**

If you have a survey for us to fill out or want to set up an interview post the link here. If you're offering compensation for our time please let us know in your post. Some companies (hello, Google) don't allow their employees to post surveys - they require their employees to ask the moderators to post it for them. That's fine, just message the mod team and we'll post your blurb here for you. If you don't have a fancy survey link and just want to ask a question you can post it here.

The beautiful members of r/Blind will DM you and you can discuss your questions with them in private OR they can respond to your message directly in this thread. Any survey request or questions from outsiders posted anywhere except here will be removed so the rest of the sub stays true to its intended purpose.

This post will be reposted weekly - Sundays 5PM Central

Hello!

I'm looking for a skilled screenreader user for a live web accessibility testing interview.

I am applying for a position as an accessibility researcher. In the position, I will be running live interviews with blind screenreader users. I am looking for someone to practice accessibility testing with. I am especially interested in interviewing people who have experience with accessibility testing.

About the call:

* $50 CAD compensation
* 45 minute zoom call
* The call needs to be before 10 PM PST this Thursday (February 17, 2022)

The interview:

* A no pressure, informal interview
* We will browse a website and complete tasks
* Please be prepared to share your thought process while you browse

This is purely for my own personal practice. Your information and data will not be used anywhere or given to anyone or any organization.

If this is something you are interested in, please DM or comment. Please let me know about your experience with screenreaders and accessibility testing.

Hi! I'm currently working on a school project for a Human-Computer Interaction class, where we are aiming to design solutions within the realm of home healthcare for the blind / visually impaired community. If you or someone you know is willing to fill out this form, I would really appreciate any insight to these questions. Thank you!

Hey everyone, this is Yao

I'm a PhD student on HCI for people with visual impairments (PVI). I'm currently working on a project on PVI's life transitions and how their social network help them go through the transitions, so if you or some of your family/friend/coworker are experiencing any life transitions and working hard to cope with them, and you are willing to share your stories with me, please DM me.

I would like to interview the participants, either individual PVI or with the people that help them go through life transitions, via remote channels like Zoom, Skype, etc. The interview would last about 30 minutes, and the compensation is 10 dollars.

All the data about the interview will be well protected and only be used for research purposes. You are free to skip or refuse to answer any question in the interview, and you are also free to quit the interview at any time. Your right is fully protected.

Happy to do it if you still want people. I mostly just do it myself honestly. And find ways with services offered so I may not be quite what you’re looking for. I am very self sufficient.

Just finished my interview with Yao. Cool dude, and I already received compensation. This one's legit.

Thanks OldManOnFire!

I wish more people with visual impairments and their family/friends/co-workers can speak out and share their experiences for the PVI community so that we can understand the community more and know how to better learn, love, and help them mutually

Oh damn. A few months ago I made a post discussing this kind of thing, I'd like to think I helped making the momentum for this. Good job mods. 👍. Thanks.

Wearable technology hasn't been very popular in the blind community. Some of us don't want to wear anything that identifies us as blind, others get by just fine holding the hand of a loved one or with a guide dog or a white cane.

I don't speak for the entire blind community but I'd like to see electrical engineering tackle a problem besides navigation. I'm thinking of a smart home specifically for the blind. Put a motion detector on the ceiling above my dishwasher door so it beeps before I walk into it and bruise my shin when someone leaves it open. Put a proximity sensor in the dining room chair so that Alexa can warn me when it's not pushed back under the table after dinner. Let me know when Amazon leaves a package in the doorway before I trip over it and tumble down the stairs. Set up a water sensor that will activate a valve when my bathtub or my toilet overflows and shut off the incoming water.

Reply if you'd like to explore any of these ideas in more depth.

Hello all,

I'm doing a computer science degree and I've chosen to research web accessibility for visually impaired/blind people. I'd like to do a couple of short form semi-structured interviews (15-20 mins max) to contribute to this.

Any and all volunteers would be appreciated, DM me for further details.

Thanks in advance!

It’s kind of many days later but if still interested let me know.

Hi there! Our team is working with eBay to improve its customer service for blind and visually impaired buyers. We're now recruiting people for 1hr Zoom call to talk about their **past online shopping experience** and how they would like to use customer service. Please DM or comment if you are visually impaired/blind, have online shopping experience, and have time in the following weeks (preferably between Feb 16-Mar 7). Our compensation would be a **50$ Paypal gift card** for this one-time interview. Thank you!
TechnicalPragmatist 1 points 1y ago
Sure I can help but haven’t used ebay extensively. I also don’t use customer service much, I did when I bought my studio microphones but not a lot. But certainly can see how I can help with that.

I think making the website more accessible shouldn’t be replaced by this though.
