As a trans person, I gotta say this is a stupid-ass way of celebrating trans people. Shine flags on buildings and stuff like they do with The Shard. That looks cool and doesn't put people at risk.

Exactly, I am sure there are literally a hundred other ways to celebrating trans people that you and I might just not be thinking of.
The fact is what Camben said at the end of the article really stuck out to me, "If your equality comes at the cost of another's it isn't equality. You've just gained privilege." As I am pretty active in the service dog community outside of the blind/visual impaired community I am sadly aware of many individuals who seem to believe that their rights supersede that of others. If I have a friend who is allergic to dogs it is not okay for me to insist they allow my dog in their house, instead we arrange to meet either at my place or an outside location. In my eyes this is just a more extreme version of the situation with my friend, their celebration is endangering disabled pedestrians so alternatives need to be found.

My city installed one and I have found it disorienting to try and follow. It would honestly be easier for me at least if they had the colours reach from one side to another and not keep switching as you cross, this way I could just locate the red of the crosswalk in my city and follow that since the contrast is enough for me. That said what if we were to utilize the rainbow elsewhere in the community, my city has planters that they maintain with flowers, what if they were to plant flowers to resemble the flags of such groups. Or we could paint the planters themselves in these colours. These would support the groups while to my knowledge not impact accessibility. And for the love of all that is good, stop removing the truncated domes and garbage cans in the community. But that is a rant for another time, it is great that the other communities are seeing more acceptance into society but it should not be on the backs of others.

Guide dogs do not look at lines while crossing... This is misinformation by whoever wrote this article.

Guide dogs do not look at the lines in the cross walk. That said, painting a cross walk rainbow colors is just stupid.
