Hi (self.Blind)
submitted by JaideSL
I've been loosing vision since 2020.

You need to see a retina specialist as soon as possible. My first visit was $300 but after that they were willing to work with me with how much I had to pay which was totally worth it. If I started getting my eyes looked at earlier in life I wouldn’t be blind now…

I had my eyes looked at within a month, or so afterward, maybe a bit less, there was a death in the family so I didn't get it as quickly as I might have otherwise. I've seen 8 drs, or so since about sept 2020.

I saw optomitrist, opthalmologist, retina specialist, neuro opthalmologist and nothing.

Hi Jaide. It's frustrating not having a diagnosis. It took me about 18 months from my first symptoms until I finally found out what causing the loss of my vision, and by the time I got the diagnosis I was already legally blind.

How are you handling this? Are you staying calm? Are you in a good place? Do you and your doctors have a plan? Have you contacted your local Lighthouse for the Blind or NFB or whatever organization is closest to where you live?

Is there anything we can do to help?

All we have where I live is Bvs "blindness and visual services", I've called, dr called, another dr called. Nothing. I am ok. I was using a cane before i became legally blind because of when i was born i have one blind eye and this eye was much better vision around 20/60-70, \*wroded wrong\* I have hardly any right \[side\] vision on the right side of right eye. Maybe 85%, maybe more is gone \[of right sided vision of right eye\] i've walked past people and not said hi and they will call to me. I've almost been hit by cars, so i used a cane because I felt it was important just in case, so I continue to use one. I have, I believe also lost some side vision /upper/nasal/lower field vision from 67% in 2012 to 61% last check in $1. As far as I know it was the same till 2020, or 2021. So idk where the field of vision % is now. I have bumped into/almost bumped into things and I've had trouble \*not now\* in the past with thinking something was closer and bumping into it. i think i was getting used to my vision changes. :) I'm doing ok :) I have the Lord with me and i'm ok. I am mostly sad because i lost a good friend who had Retinitis pigmentosa. He told me once, "You don't always have to be brave." He passed Sat Feb 5.

Yeah, and now I'm bobbing up and down again. I'm under legally blind then i might go in a few mos and be legally blind again. Yesterday i was so upset i left without thinking and i think i was allergic to the drops because the drops really hurt my eyes so bad. it took nearly 24 hours to get better. I am still having some irritation but it's better.

I am supposed to see my regular opthalmologist. I felt like my vision was getting worse, It's hard because I have had vision go up and down the first maybe 10 months like crazy, maybe the first year. It was better in the morning and then it would get worse after. It never did that before, but when my vision began getting worse it would do that. They would ask, "are you diabetic?" and I'd say, "No." It finally seemed like it's gotten better in the last 6 mos, almost. It seems like it stays the same. i used to get up almost, or almost every morning and stand in a certain place and look at myself/hands in the mirror and see if I could count my fingers and see my face. i stopped doing that because it was driving me mad. \*TONGUE OUT\* I do it now and then, but not nearly like I used to. :)) So i am going to ask if they will do a field test because i feel like it might be worse, but whatever if it is, I'll be ok. :)

You can get through this.

Blindness is not the end of the world. Being legally blind is just a matter of adapting. Life doesn’t end because of total blindness even.

Well my vision is going up and down I guess again. Today it was about 2 lines better. So I'm bobbing up and down. I'm under legally blind now. Sheesh. :( I was the same from july 31 2021 till lately. :( I can't stand going up and down. I feel depressed a bit. :( I thought it was finally stable. :O i just want whateer my vision will be to stay stable.
