Hello. I have a project at work that maybe someone here can help.
I have a current work assignment where I have to create a PDF file to be ready and accessible for visually impaired persons. I am currently using Adobe Acrobat to test how it reads it (audio). It seems to be working fine.
We have tables in our PDF. Acrobat reads the table from left to right. Is there an application out there that can read the table cell value but before reading the value, it reads the column header first?
For example in column A is First name, is there a program that will say "First Name John", then next row "First Name Samantha", etc.
I would like to use a program like this to test the PDF that we are generating.

You should be testing your PDF with a screen reader, not just the audio component of DC Reader. Use Jaws or NVDA on Windows, and also use VoiceOver on a Mac in either Adobe Reader DC or Preview, or test the PDF in a browser. Ultimately, your source document needs to be accessible first, so if your table has been created properly in Word or whatever app you are using to generate the document, it should translate into a tagged PDF. Use Acrobat to set up the tags properly and ensure they are surrounding the elements correctly. Make sure you have good heading structure, a table of contents on the first page of the doc, and that any graphics are hidden unless they are informative or contain text.
Your table should have proper column, row headers, or both. You should not have any merged cells. The table should also on be tabular data and must not be used as a layout tool, just in case.

Wow, thank you for the post! This is all new to us and we are trying to understand all the technical aspect of what we need to do. If we can't make our PDF accessible, NY State will drop us.

Pay extra attention to the resources they list, as they have guidelines for how to create accessible documents as directed by Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which is what you'll need to follow if this is for NY State since it is a state school that must abide by 508 procurement standards and the ADA.
