I found a Victor Reader Classic CD Book Reader at Value Village - Does it really kill a set of AA batteries in just a little over an hour? (self.Blind)
submitted by niall_b
I found a Victor Reader Classic CD Book Reader at Value Village misplaced in the toy section. Out of curiosity, I grabbed it in case it was of any use to one of the families I support.

I put in 4 fresh AA batteries and let it fly on a couple of classical music CD's. It murdered the batteries in only a little over an hour.

Is this normal? Does it really chew through batteries that fast? Maybe I'm using junk batteries or something?

Further observation: The audio quality on this device is downright impressive. Puts my old Panasonic Shock wave Portable CD player to shame.

how classic is classic?
Pretty sure every CD-based Victor i've seen was mains powered with battery backup?

Sorry, I think I replied to you out of thread by mistake. My reply:

It says 2005-2006 on the back. It's pretty ancient, but still potentially useful.

It didn't have the main power supply included, so I may need to buy one.

It runs off 4 AA batteries. I just used some Panasonic, the teir for electronics, but they aren't the best.

I'm just wondering before dropping money on batteries if the device should get more than an hour play on some better Duracell or something.

Otherwise I may just get some enloop rechargeable batteries. Which may be the easiest thing to do regardless.
