Credit cards! (self.Blind)
submitted by PrincessDie123
Hey so I just wanted to post because I’m excited about it, I just got my new Discover Card and it has Braille embossing so I won’t have to ask people to read my card info for me as my sight gets worse woo! The regular test is in the back and the Braille text is in the front I wish my other cards could be this way too.

Did it just come with it, or did you have to ask for it? I have Discover too, and this would make using a credit card way easier.

The app had a section where you can request to change the image on the card and if you scroll down a bit there’s an option for a Braille card. The change is free and it came less than a week after the request, all the numbers on the card are the same so I don’t have to change any auto payments that I have set up!

I didn’t know there was an app. I am going to have to look in to this.

Yeah it’s their mobile banking app

Honestly, I'm really surprised that this isn't common. I'm in Ireland and every credit and debit card I've ever seen has had raised numbers and letters on the front, going back to my dad's cards in the 90s.

Maybe an EU thing?

Although, the CCV on the back is smooth, but it's only 3 digits.

We used to have raised letters and numbers but for some reason they went to being flat in the last couple years here in the USA and honestly I’m also surprised Braille options aren’t common, last time I asked about it the bank was confused as to how the card would work if they added Braille lol

I’m in the UK and same here.

I was born completely blind so I can’t read the numbers but I know they exist.

I really wish the banks would put the numbers in braille to! That would be awesome!

Very interesting. I've had my Discover card for more than 20 years, so I pretty much have the card number memorized. Hopefully, more banks will offer that.

I've been looking for large print debit cards
PrincessDie123 [OP] 2 points 1y ago
That would be nice too for sure

I have a petal card and it came like that like I never have owned a credit card where the all the numbers were large print. Didn't even have to ask for like a special card or had to look through any of the Styles they got to choose from that was their standard style large print

Wish my was like this, is entirely smooth…

Yeah most of my cards are like that and it sucks

I know a few banks actually offer this but most of it is hidden and you have to request it.

Not sure if my bank has this option but I am not to interested either. I have my card number and my three digit csv code written down and it’s easily enough just open the file and oh hey look. Just asked someone to read it to me and stored it. My card is also not completely flat, the front of it has raised number. So no urgency for that. Would be cool but beyond that, meh.
