PLEASE READ - POSTING SURVEYS (CORPORATE/SCHOOLS) - QUESTIONS FOR THE COMMUNITY? (self.Blind)
submitted by AutoModerator
Many people want to help the blind community by creating new apps or technology. That's awesome! Others are writing stories or making films with blind characters and want to ask a blind person's perspective. That's great, too! This thread is the place where the ones who want to help or learn can connect with the blind and visually impaired people who don't mind answering questions, filling out surveys, or being interviewed. We're putting it in a single, stickied thread for everyone's convenience. Most of the regulars here come for the company. r/Blind is a place where we feel accepted, a place where we fit in with the only other people who understand what life is like for us. It's our place to rant and to celebrate, to vent and to compare notes. It's where we grieve the loss of our eyesight and encourage each other to do our best. We don't come here to answer questions from people who assume we're the blind version of r/AskReddit. Moving all the questions to this thread frees up our sub for the more personal and heartfelt posts.

This is our first week doing this so please be patient if we need to make adjustments.

**How it works:**

If you have a survey for us to fill out or want to set up an interview post the link here. If you're offering compensation for our time please let us know in your post. Some companies (hello, Google) don't allow their employees to post surveys - they require their employees to ask the moderators to post it for them. That's fine, just message the mod team and we'll post your blurb here for you. If you don't have a fancy survey link and just want to ask a question you can post it here.

The beautiful members of r/Blind will DM you and you can discuss your questions with them in private OR they can respond to your message directly in this thread. Any survey request or questions from outsiders posted anywhere except here will be removed so the rest of the sub stays true to its intended purpose.

This post will be reposted weekly - Sundays 5PM Central

The problem with this way of doing things is that when a new post appears on the thread people won’t know about it.

Some people are annoyed atthe survey posts, but they can just flick past them. Yeah the post may be posted every

Hello, all, I have a research study opportunity for low-vision/blind individuals with more information below:

Do you or someone you know have low-vision or blindness?

Researchers at The Smith-Kettlewell Eye Research Institute in the Pacific Heights area of San Francisco are seeking participants for an exciting research study on improving the spatial navigational abilities of low-vision and blindness individuals through a unique rehabilitation training.

Measurements of the participant’s fMRI brain activity, virtual reality navigation, and behavioral skill tests which involve sensory, spatial, and memory will take place before, after, and 3-months after the rehabilitation training. The rehabilitation training will be conducted remotely 2 hours a day for 5 days after completing the first pre-training testing session.

You are eligible to participate if you are:

\- 18 years or older

\- English speaking

\- Diagnosed low-vision or blind

\- Right-hand dominant

\- No metal implants, pacemakers, or tattoos

\- No formal training in art

\- Located in the San Francisco Bay Area

Participants will be compensated from $20 per hour during training and testing and $30 per hour during the MRI testing, plus up to $20 for travel/parking reimbursement for each visit.

If you are eligible and are interested in participating or have any questions regarding the study, please send me an inbox message OR call (415) 345-2109.

Hey everyone I am currently in my final year of my undergraduate studies and was hoping some people here could help answer some questions on this survey. I am currently working on a prototype for a website that better connects people with visual impairments to doctors. Right now I am hoping to collect some user data on our core demographic. The survey has a few questions regarding how people with visual impairments interact with doctors and technology and I’m hoping to use your answers to better inform the development of our site. Here is the link to the survey: https://forms.gle/9b6nKvZo16oT5Q1y7. If you had some time to fill out some questions on it that would be greatly appreciated.

I am doing an engineering project designing toys for young children (preschool-kindergarten age) that incorporates texture and braille. Some of our current ideas are a boardgame with braille pieces, a textile or fidget board that includes a lot of common items like zippers and shoelaces and various textures, and textured animals with braille tags with each animal's name. I wanted to come here and ask people who had visual impairment as children or have children with visual impairment what your favorite items were to play with or what types of items you wish were out there. Also if you know of toys or items that are out there now and are horrible that would be helpful too. I want to make this project as accessible as possible for the children in my community so if you have any comments, that would be much appreciated. Thanks!
