Does anyone have in recommendation for companies that hire the blind? (self.Blind)
submitted by howwedo420
I have a degree and work experience. Two things keeping from getting a job I'm disabled and blind. Number one question get asked are we going have to pay for special equipment? I say no I have everything I need through the state. Or are able to safely get around. When call to get follow up it's always "we went with someone who a better fit for the job" I know why it's ok. Sorry I'm disabled and blind and f-ing inconvenience.

Edit: My degree is: AAS in Business Management

I live in Texas

Work experience:

●Daycare Attendant at a gym (worst job ever) worked here for 5 months left for better pay and job opportunities

●Account Assistant at Budweiser Distribution center for almost two years (this job I liked I did a lot of accounts receivable collecting on past due invoice and such) they cut my hours so I was forced to quit and find better pay.

●Customer Service Representative II for TTEC (too fast paced wouldn't allow to use some my assistive technologies or allow me time to go to my doctor to get my new glasses and get the accommodations paperwork filled out by my doctor. So, I quit a 3 months.

Would love to get in to like payroll Assistant job or HR assistant job. I would be happy in billing/Collections something like that.

I'm sorry. This is totally illegal if you are in the US, but hard to prove. If you are in the US, I would look at government, state, city, local, and academic institutions like colleges and universities. Also, some big corporations are more sensitive to hiring people with disabilities. I work for a private University; I have friends who have worked for Verizon and government departments such as the Navy.

Under and unemployment are a big problem in our community.

Good luck!

Yes, and if you are in the US, please look into Schedule A to include with your Government applications.

I would check out $1. The companies listed there tend to have more inclusive hiring practices.

Microsoft occasionally has jobs that might be a good fit for you and they have super inclusive hiring practices in large part because Satya Nadela, the CEO, has a child with disabilities and because of the amazing work of people like their Chief Accessibility Officer, Jenny Lay-Flurrie.

Additionally, you could check with companies that specialize in Accessibility services like APH, Lighthouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired, and more. They tend to make a habit of hiring a larger percentage of individuals with various disabilities, particularly because then they have a lot of people with lived experience they can get relevant perspectives from.

Could also keep an eye on $1. That is my current employer. They specialize in Indoor Navigation apps, which are in large part geared towards helping individuals with vision loss or who are blind live more independently. Awesome tech and they are growing fast.

Look into Paycom. They're a huge Payroll and HR company that's constantly hiring in Oklahoma City, where they're headquartered, but they also have a huge operations center in Grapevine, TX and sales offices in Austin, Dallas, Fort Worth, Houston, Lewisville and San Antonio. I also know that they hire remote for some jobs.

Best of luck, my friend.

Ok I added the info

I would check with your states department of vocational rehabilitation. Additionally, I would see if TSBVI has any services you could use. If you are a strong screen reader user, I would look into QA.

Any jobs I know of is tech. I am in assistive tech and know of a few people now who own assistive tech businesses one of them likes to give blind people a chance but you do need to be techy. But maybe something like that

As I was saying to someone else on another thread, networking and making friends is your friend. Also volunteering.

This is old I found a job in sales B2B and C2C selling health insurance and life insurance. Also bonus this job took me out of my comfort zone and I had to approach people and talk to people. In the process I found somebody I want to spend the rest of my life with. Which I thought would never happen to me cuz I'm legally blind and disabled.

Hey guys I applied at Dell for a few positions mostly in sales for inbound calls. Base pay, full benefits, and 4 weeks of training 100% online. It's in Round Rock, Texas so just up the road from me.
