Hi everyone,

Hope you're all well. Just wanted to know how does everyone go about telling people such as psychologists etc about your vision impairment? I don't want the focus of my time with them be spent on my vision as I understand that they may have questions but that is not necessarily the reason I may be seeking a psychologist.

Thanks all.

Just tell them what you want to talk about.
They might ask you if whatever you're talking about can be related or heighten by your impairment, and just be honest.
A good psychologist will get the hints.

It's also ok to stop seeing a psychologist at any time.
My former one was very helpful for a year and half but eventually she started to bring everything back to my mother despite me saying I didn't feel or believe it was related.
When a psychologist starts to impose an idea that you are not comfortable with, it's okay to decide it is time to part ways.

Yes I definitely agree. A good psychologist will know how to do their job. Thank you for your input :D

I agree 100%. My psychologist is aware of my visual impairment as I was very up front about it. He has asked occasional questions (e.g. do I think that my diminished ability to see facial expressions has a large impact on how I handle interpersonal communication), but only as they relate to the subject matter at hand. At no time has he attempted to make my vision the 'centerpiece' of my issues.

I think mentioning it when it may be relevant or honest is good.
