Toy suggestions for a blind infant (self.Blind)
submitted by MommaRaven
Today we discovered my first cousin once removed is blind. I would love to buy him some special toys based on hearing/touch/etc. He's still under a year old. Thank you so much!

A lot of blind kids love light up toys- if they have any light perception (which is actually pretty common) they are often drawn to them. Prevailandbraillemama on Instagram has a lot of posts about toys her kids love- maybe check that out?

I look at her thank you! I don't know if he has any light perception, my cousin asked for toys based on touch and sound.

Check out Maxi Aids. It can give you an idea of the types of toys to get if they are out of stock on something.

I would definitely recommend you get them some fun sensory toys. You best bet will probably be any chewy toy so he can hold it and investigate it with his mouth. Plus since he is under a year all babies use their mouth as a main way of investigating something. I’ll link a cute necklace I found. Really any sensory toy is a great gift though as they grow!

Here’s a cute $1

It is adorable! A chewy thing was definitely one thing I wanted to get him!

I'd agree with the multi-sensory baby toys. My daughter (sighted) had a plush cow with all sorts of interesting tactile and auditory parts. The ears had some sort of crinkle layer that crackled when handled or chewed. There were fuzzy parts, silky parts, loops to hold on to. Definitely her favorite toy up to year one and a bit beyond.

Thank you! I'm for sure going to get him something with different textures etc

Something like these can be fun for him. A lot of the LAMAZE toys fit the bill. They have different tactile sensations, and make different noises, and are kid safe.

I had a toy sound guitar at one point and stuff like that, maybe musical toys?
