Meaningful Gift Ideas? (self.Blind)
submitted by asterierrantry
My niece is mostly blind, though she can see a bit in her peripherals. She's turning 18 this year and I'd really like to get her something special! I'm big on meaningful gifts and my standard gift would usually be something like a photo album of her growing up so I'm struggling to come up with similar meaningful gifts for her. I really don't like standard gifts and want it to be something connected to memories of her growing up. She has a rare disease that majorly shortens life expectancy (and is the source of her vision loss) so her making it to 18 is a HUGE feat which is why I want it to be a meaningful gift. Any ideas or anything I could buy or even make?

Edit to add: We don't live near each other!

Making memories sound very important in the particular case. Would an experience be best? Hot air balloon ride, a roller coaster if she has never done one, or something like a mix tape, or a sideshow type thing of everyone recording a clip of what she means to them, wishing her a happy bday

Oh shoot we don't actually live near each other! The recording could be an interesting idea though hmm

Well everyone can send you their clips, and then you can compile it.

Or the experience day could be you paying for your cousin and a pal to do something. I know it would be lovely if you could join them but if not you are still making a happy memory for them. Doesnt have to expensive. A massage, pedicure etc

When I received my second cancer diagnosis at age 16, my siblings bought me a charm bracelet. Each sibling picked a charm for me that had a special meaning/memory. for example, my oldest sister choose a dolphin, because she and I once played with dolphins together. I really love that bracelet and you can symbolize as many experiences/memories as you want and add more beads as you create memories.

My parents tape recorded me when I was younger. I don’t know if people could send her a audio album. All the recordings audidtorily that was ever recorded of them and her. Even videos.

I guess I should've mentioned, we don't live near each other. Her birthday is in June and most likely the next time we'll be in the same city is either thanksgiving or christmas.
