Making a personal website easy to consume (self.Blind)
submitted by peripheraltangent
Hi folks. I have a personal website where I post stories, productivity tips, etc., created with hand-coded HTML. Totally non-commercial, just a way to share things with the world.

I would like to make sure that it is easily read by the blind and visually impaired. How would I best go about checking it? I've started with the page $1.

Thanks.

runs great with speech and braille. Good heading count, well-alt'd IMG tags, nice to hear and feel. Haven't looked deeper than a casual slim but no cookie popups, no flashing focus grabbers. A nice quiet page.

The site works well here with my screen reader. Thanks for labeling your images by the way. Waaaaaay too many people forget to do that.

As a low vision reader, I'd prefer sans serif fonts, overall, and a larger default font size. Otherwise, it looks good.

Pretty much all browser have accessibility tests in their dev tools. If you want deeper insights, consider the axe dev tools extension.

I’m not sure how to do ot but, but I think you can make it so the user chooses the size of the font they want.

I only have a few of the pages labeled so far, but I’m working on it!

Update: I’ve updated most pages with alt tags. Thanks for the help!
