I currently have 20/40L and 20/80ishR with scotomas and use the term visually impaired. My low vision center has me listed as visually disabled for purposes of things like drivers licenses. I think it's really up to you what term you use and how it affects you.

thanks that makes sense

I wouldn’t focus too much on the terminology legally blind, visually impaired, high partial, all sounds fine. Just use what you want. Or even blind,

Is degrees about the field? Is it tunnel vision?
Trick-Regret-493 [OP]3 points1y ago
exactly yea tunnel vision.

Ah, then you are legally blind, yes? In the US, you fit the definition based on field from what I can tell.
This is me as well, but for acuity (just on the cusp)...tbh, depending on the person and how much I feel like educating, I do say legally blind (people don't know that term as much) or visually impaired.

yes i am definitely declared blind by New York. the question comes up from a comment by my O&M saying it could be ‘residual vision’ i’ve just not familiar with the term i guess.

Whoa, fascinating, I never heard that either... looks like a clinical term used in psychology

Tunnel vision! Many different diseases can cause it but the main thing is what you see, not classifying it. You’re legally blind, do you use a cane? I have the same degrees of vision in my left eye as you with 20/500 (only central in my right eye with 20/200) and if you don’t I recommend an ID cane just so ppl know that you’re legally blind 🙂

i always use a cane these days thanks i just wasn’t sure of the proper terms lol
