Any suggestions?

older kids might enjoy Marcus Sedgwick's She is Not Invisible. The main character is a blind teen.

Cool, thank you!

Then you might progress to Robert J. Sawyer's WWW Trilogy, an older main character. She actually gets to see, using cool technology.

Ugh, I hate stories where the disabled characters are healed. And that’s like, all of them.

ah, she's not healed per se. She uses technology, so when the tech is turned off she's still blind. It's a cracking Trilogy.

I can’t vouch for how good this book is since I read it as a child. But I remember enjoying it and learning a lot from it. The book is “Mom Can’t See Me” by Sally Hobart Alexander. The author is blind and the book is a true story written from the perspective of her nine year old daughter. It was published in 1990 and I read a review that said the language in it is a little dated. But when I saw this post I immediately thought of this book and then I spent like 20 minutes trying to find the name of it, so I thought I’d post about it anyway.

It looks like she’s written at least one other children’s book from the perspective of her daughter about getting a new guide dog called, “Mom’s Best Friend.”

In case anyone is looking for this later, I did find one about a girl making a tactile picture for her blind grandfather, “Lucy’s Picture.” Not a parent, but seems like as close as I’m going to get.

I thought about writing one but not creative enough. I was going to write about a blind kid going through school and did a bad job and I am awful at plot and not creative so yeah.

I should write one, but I'd be a badass superhero by night and a mild-mannered blind dad by day. SO perhaps not.

That sounds perfect. It’s exactly what I’m looking for! Another thing I have found about kids’ books about disability is that many of the titles start with “What’s Wrong With…” which is not exactly auspicious.
