Need cheap afordable 7inch composite monitor with picture flip options! (self.Blind)
submitted by yamarobotron-DX7
Hey guys

I bought this old VTEK model Chroma XL electronic magnifier for cheap that I originally ment to use with my 40in sony bravia. However I ran into a little problem here. For whatever reason the words show backwards and my hand moves the wrong way left or right, but moves up and down fine. Kinda weired. I was going to use this aparatus to help me read my lcd screens of my midi instruments making music.(drum machines, sequencers, mixers etc.

I have limited space so if I can't figure out how to put my bravia into a mirror mode \*2011 bravia model\* I will need to buy some good small cheap chinese monitor that takes a composite ntsc signal that I can sit on top of the machine on a little tripod or something. Im thinking something like those backup car cams or whatever, similar to something I used in my arcade machine project a few years ago and forget the name and brand of that monitor. That little 7inch monitor had all those flipping options and I dont want to rip it out of my arcade game to find out. I have already confirmed the problem with this magnifier can be fixed as long as the tv set you plug the magnifier into has the mirror option. I tested it on this old 20inch sharp I had laying around and it worked so all I need is a smaller monitor with composite ntsc inputs and Ill be golden.

How is any of this relevant to a sub Reddit about blindness?

It does seem not directly related more of a tech question for general purpose.

you are right, Good thing, I was able to source an inexpensive chinese monitor after all which is great.

Also throwing this out there for anyone who runs into the same problem when buying legacy telesensory/VTEK electronic reading ades more specifically ones with XL in the name that appeare to have this bug:

https://www.ebay.com/itm/144247637613

Looks to be several versions of the same monitor coming out of china you want to make sure it is the one that comes with the remote and has a row of 5 buttons on the front bottom with the button following off to the right. Not garantied if this will be exactly true for every cheap chinese monitor though so make sure before you buy

WARNING! Requires some diy for the power supply you need a 12v dc transformer with at least 2amps current handling and optionally some soldering skills.

Just so happened to have a tub full of wallwarts so no big deal for me lol.

also, I need a spare bulb for the machine incase anyone knows what size these mini flourescent bulbs are and if I can get it at home depot.

One of them works fine and the other one just flickers and I already tested to make sure both starters are still good.

I tried one that fit from a busted bug zapper and that one just refuses to fire up in either of the two lamp sockets.

thanks guys!

also I even pulled the cover to check nothing came loose during shipping and Im sure its probably fine

Im betting this magnifier head originally was intended to be used with some already modified CRT monitor of some kind that inverted the picture right to left to left to right if that makes any sense.

On the back of the head is a BNC output where you plug the female end of the cable it comes with into and you plug the male RCA connector into the composite input of your television set/monitor.

Im willing to spend leff than $50 on a cheap chinese monitor I can use and I know you can find them cheap, I think I payed like $25 or 30 for the one in my mame arcade cabinet.

I don't mind if I have to do some tinkering with it to make it work, as long I don't need to soldering anything please.

I just wish there was a known undocumented hack for sony bravia television sets I could use to flip the image on my existing set
