What’s the difference between audio and video descriptions? I’ve seen the latter referred to while watching something recently. Might’ve been the Paralympics but I’m not sure. (self.Blind)

In the U.S., both are interchangeable words for the same thing. "Video description" was used by the FCC for several years, but they now use "audio description" for consistency. In Canada, the practice is known as "described video", with "audio description" referring to something different.

Really interesting I didn’t think there was a difference but interesting so what does audio description refer to in canada then?

From the Canadian Radio and Television Commission:

"Audio description (AD) relies on a program host or announcer to provide a voice-over by reading aloud or describing key elements of programming, such as text and graphics that appear on the screen. It is often used for information based programming, including newscasts, weather reports, sports scores, and financial data. Most broadcasters are required to provide audio description."

Interesting.

Audio discription is the process in which a narrator details what is happening on screen. And vidio description could be a paragraph discribing what the content of the vidio is and what happened.

That could be a sense of "video description", though that's not how it's used in practice.
