Potential Stem Cell Clinical Trials (US) for Retinal Diseases to Optic Nerve Atrophy (self.Blind)
submitted by Niwoc
Hey guys,

New member (26M). I became VI in October when I had bilateral retinal occlusions due to intermediate uveitis. (I go to USC ROSKI for treatment)

Here is something of interest to my fellow Redditors involving stem cell clinical trials.$1

I'll be asking my doctors to recommend me for this trial once my vasculitis is taken care of. I thought this would be of interest as it brings hope that our visions will be restored one day!

The recent case studies look good.

Maybe I'm missing something here, but says clinical trials began Jan 2016, will complete in Jan 2023 with results published Jan 2024. Did I miss something?

Sorry for the late reply. I was doing more research on this. Looks like the company MD stem Cells actually has patients pay for any stem cell procedure.

Really interesting to see that they have results (published) but they didn’t go through the typical procedure of clinical trials:

Pre clinical trials (safety) -> Animal Model -> Human trials.

They flat out just said back in 2014 let me put stem cells into you and hope for the best: rather than following any sort of double blind control group study.

However I can’t deny the results. A great article arguing against their efficacy can be found below in this link:

Don’t hold your breath. I think people can be too caught up by cures.

I was told that you should never have to pay for a legitimate stem cell trial. And it should always be approved by the FDA.
