What prescription is legally blind? (self.Blind)
submitted by [deleted]
I've read the legally blind means your vision is 20/200 but everywhere I search, I can't find a specific prescription benchmark, does anyone know if there's a prescription number for that? If there's a link that also let's me covert prescribed numbers (e.g. -1.75) into numbers like 20/30, that would be great!

Prescription has nothing to do with it. The benchmark is 20/200 BEST CORRECTED in the better of the 2 eyes (implying the other is the same or worse).

Now I am 20/400 without my -3.50 glasses, but I'm 20/20 with them so I am by no means blind, legally or otherwise.

A person can be -25.00 and as long as they are CORRECTABLE then they don't meet the requirements of legal blindness either.

I am best corrected 20/1600 so think that means I am legally blind. :)

That makes so much more sense now, thank you so much!

I'm 10/225 in one eye and 20/200 in the other with corrective lenses on so my vision is trash. Im sure in may 4th n appointment it's going to be worse can't see for shit out my new glasses I got in Nov already.

Yep, in this case, as others have mentioned, prescription numbers don't really play in to it. My prescription is actually pretty minimal. At least, I see almost the same with or without glasses, so I assume it is. I don't have that experience seeing clearly with glasses and terribly blurry without that some of my sighted-but-glasses-wearing friends have. There's just not much correction that glasses can do for my eyes, no matter what kind of prescription they put in to them.

(My reading prescription, on the other hand, is very strong, but even though my corrected near vision is close to full sight, that's not how visual acuity is measured.)

There is a chart on this site. Looks to be -2.5 for 20/200.

That's a good chart. I feel like that kind of thing only works for straight myopes though, since astigmatic and hyperopic prescriptions affect vision differently.
