Legally blind/blind people of Reddit. I'm a 20 year old female who has been diagnosed as legally blind for 4 years. At first I was diagnosed with Rentinal Dystrophy, but it was late found out I have healthy retinas. I've also been diagnosed with a "degenerative eye disorder of unknown origin". I shit you not, that is the words they used. I have no peripheral vision, no depth perception, my left eye is almost totally blind, and my right eye is far behind. My question is, what is y'alls diagnosis and symptoms? This might help me in my wquest for answers. TIA.

Has your doctor made any referrals to other doctors, like a neuro-opthamologist? If your retinas are health, the cause could be on the optic nerve, or a neurological condition in the brain (which happens more than people think).

I've had a doctor talk about my optic nerves. Don't remember exactly what they said but I didn't get an exact diagnosis.

I have peter’s anomaly. It’s a opacity in the eyes and segmented retinas. And smaller retinas.
Every time they try a transplant or to get the stuff away get rid of the clouding it would all come back every cornea transplant I would get it would just cloud over.
I also have glaucoma and dried eyes.

My vision problems are a brain problem, and getting any sort of diagnosis for that sort of stuff is difficult and extremely costly (here in the US). Idk about other people, but I simply can’t afford to see a specialist multiple times a year. I’m on medication the help the more severe effects of my brain’s issues, but no treatment thus far has been able to fix how my eyes peregrine light ( which is way too much all the time, making a sunny day just a screen of white and spots of color even with dark shades, and making dark spaces super high contrast). With just how many things can go wrong to mess up one’s vision, going without a proper diagnosis isn’t all that uncommon. Idk about you, but I don’t need a doctor to tell me I can’t see. I am well aware that I can’t see. I can’t spend thousands of dollars anymore having different people tell me I can’t see and they don’t know exactly why, or that even if their guess is correct there isn’t a cure, you know? I have bills to pay and mouths to feed instead.

I'm currently undiagnosed, but in my case it's most likely some kind of CVI.
My experience is very different from your own but on top of just regular poor acuity I have light sensitivity, poor night vision, poor visual reflexes and gross motor control. Frequently I just won't notice or recognize things right in front of me. And all of this combines to give me horrid eye strain.

My husband had a non-cancerous pituitary tumor. It was operated on, and he lost all vision in his right eye as a result. (Side note: this would have happened anyway if the tumor was allowed to expand, and he would have gone totally blind). He also has somewhat reduced peripheral vision in his left eye.
Out of curiosity, have you had an MRI or blood tests within the last few years? If not, it may be worth looking into.

I've had MRIs and blood work and any other kind of test I can think of. Nothing seems to be wrong with me. Except the steady March towards blindness.
