Finding images and videos for use in our social media/YouTube? (self.Blind)
submitted by synthpopolis
Hi,

I have a YouTube channel and SoundCloud where I post my music ideas and want to put more into those projects, but I don't know what to do for the visual elements. I don't want all my cover art, videos and avatars to just be blank or whatever the default is. If I had enough vision I could just easily find roylaty free images and videos on Google that fit the mood and vibe of whatever the music was, but not having that ability, I'm hitting a wall. Is the only solution to get sighted assistance? Have any other blind creators found a solution? I like doing things on my own and don't really want to be held up by needing to get help locating visual content.

Perhaps there's a site where media is especially well organized, tagged and described so I can reasonably know what I'm getting without being able to see it?

Yes unfortunately for the best of the best effects sighted help is sort of essential here especially if it’s front facing and many people will see it. There’s only so good of a job a blind person can do here.

i know on $1 image search you can specify public domain and that will probably be pretty helpful to avoid take any kind of takedown notices due to copyright.

i did a few searches, "happy background" was one i tried but duckduckgo seems to provide happy birthday related crap and isn't as good as the results i got through $1 but yandex doesn't seem to let you specifiy a license sooo i guess although the ai is better there it probably isnt as helpful.

i can't really speak to the accessibility of those sites unfortunately.

Cool. Thank you for the reply. Those are two sites I had not tried yet so I will give it a shot

use pexals for cover photoes and videos. I use this all the time, found the resource I believe in 2018 and have been using them ever since. My discord server for blind pilots features a 737 flying over a body of water and the shadow of the plane mirrored on the body of water, or at least it did until a friend of mine made an avitar of a plane featuring I think BVI or flying blind or something like that.

Ooh sounds promising! Can you tell me more? What specifically do you like about it from a blind perspective? Thanks

I love the fact it describes the images when you look at them. that is the link describes them which is nice. Try searching for let's say podcasting. good luck.
