Would you be interested in anime with audio descriptions? (self.Blind)
submitted by Pokeaqua
Hi Reddit,

I am a sighted person but I recently had an idea. I noticed that anime doesn’t have audio descriptions. I was thinking about starting a YouTube channel where I record dubbed anime audio and add my own audio descriptions.

I have a few questions:
1. Do you know of any anime that currently have audio descriptions?
2. Is this something that you would be interested in listening to?
3. Any general ideas or suggestions for me?

Thank you for your input!

I am totally blind and yes I would love some audio described anime!! I would like to get audio descriptions for Akira, cowboy Bebop, ghost in the shell, attack on Titan.
I’m sure that there are plenty of other anime out there but these are the ones that I am the most familiar with that I’ve was never able to enjoy visually. I lost my site later in life. But I do remember some of these stories. When you get your YouTube channel up and running please post the links here so we can all enjoy them! Thank you for taking on this endeavor! You might want to look into the audio description sub Reddit and also post there as well for feedback.
Hope you stay well
Thank you

Yes please! I lovs anime. I don’t know any anime with audio descriptions. Character descriptions are important.

My short answer is a resounding yes.

1. The latest Pokemon series is the only anime with audio description that I know off the top of my head, but I’m pretty sure there are a few others.
2. Yes!

3.I’m not sure if YouTube is the best place for them. I’m worried that they’d get flagged for copyright violation.

Yeah, I just thought about the copyright violation possibility. I’m wondering if an audio description that you play on YouTube alongside a show/movie on Netflix would be better. Like, you play the two videos in-sync, so that the YouTube video doesn’t contain any actually audio from the show.

If you or anyone has any ideas for how to get around copyright, let me know!

Or you can go and ask the guys from audiovault.net, they have a discord, basically is a website where you can download mp3 files of shows and you can play in sync or just listen to those on your phone like an audio book.
Audio described anime will be a dream come true.

Submit these as audio files to audiovault.net. YouTube will take them down.

I would so love this, even with anime that haven't had official dubs yet like Eizouken.

There are a few animes that have English audio dubs with English audio description. For example Pokémon journeys and Pokémon master journeys.
The burning flame has done audio discription for demon slayer with the English audio dub track available on audio vault

Absolutely! The lack of AD is why I haven't ventured into anime. This would be perfect. If you end up doing it, I would be interested in your channel name/where it's posted.

absolutely. Let us know if you go through with it

I think the best option for this would be pitching it to Sony as they own Funimation and Crunchyroll.

Certainly be interesting but if it’s done to a english dub would be the best. As unless the blind person can understand japanese this would be hard.
