How do I support my vision impaired partner?(self.Blind)
submitted by hiwhatdoisayidk
I’ve been with my partner for over a year and a half and we live together. She has been vision impaired since she were born, and she generally knows how to do things without help and stuff, except recently her vision has gotten much much worse very quickly, and she’s totally blind now. She’s finding it really hard to adjust and I just want to know if there’s anything I can do to make things easier for her?
I particularly like this bit from that thread by /u/drillinstructorjan
> If you can get that stuff down, suddenly you realise the world is still there and you can still be in it and it is the most wonderful thing.
> It's not about the toys.
Please come back with more questions once you have processed that thread.

Just be willing to help when neededd, read things to her and so forth. My sighted wife died over ten years ago, but I still miss the things we did. We'd play the poker machines in Vegas and she'd automaticly glance over and read me my cards while she was also playing. There is lots of talking things out there these days. Lots of little tricks you learn like running cold water over your arm and hand before taking something out of the oven so you can touch something hot for a fraction of a second befgore it actually burns you. Best of luck. BTW, I'm 73 and been blind all of my life. Is it a pain in the ass, absolutely. Harder from going from some vision to none I know.

Get some training from places to learn how to do things from being independent to traveling around the world well okay not exactly but mobility skills. Learn how it works and start using it maybe try a training center? I just learnt by myself but that’s me.
Learn assistive technology now.
