Opinion on these services? Curious as I recently created accounts with both but have yet to use either. I also have notice some less than favorable views of both lately. Mostly, due to price hikes.

Other than taxis, I have little other options for transit besides rides from family. There is no bus service where I live.

Thanks

I love them! For the person who is asking or rather saying that they weren’t very blind conscience is called communication. In the Uber app there is a way that you can write a note saying that you’re blind and can they identify themselves when they pull up? I don’t like lyft as much because they actually have a limitation on characters that you can write in the notes. both of these services though are game changers from what we used to have with the traditional cabs. They at least come which wasn’t the case for me when I moved to my city for the first few years with the taxi service.

This has been my experience with Uber as well. i just say, rider is blind so please call out when arriving. The only time I had a bad experience was when they tried dropping me off at the wrong building, but they corrected it lol.

Fyi this might be more helpful if you replied directly to that person. Good points though, and cabs were an absolute nightmare! As soon as the ride shares came along I couldn’t have been happier. I got so ripped off and taken advantage of by cab drivers over the years. Sometimes it would take over an hour for somebody to show up. Then they would pretend their card reader was broken because they wanted cash payments. I’ve had them take me on extremely scenic routes just to run up the meter, and I even had one driver pull away as soon as he saw that I had a guide dog, even though that’s completely illegal of him. Good riddance to the taxi industry, I say

I liked Lyft better because they had a light they could put on their dash and the app showed the color the light would be. Since I don't know car models and sometimes even colors are hard to discern I liked having the light.
That said I haven't used them since before the pandemic so I don't know if things have changed.

I hate them. But I love them. The main problem that I run into is that the drivers aren't really disability conscious especially blind conscience and some of there in an area where there's a lot of vehicles it can be really hard to see which car is your car that you're supposed to get in and I'm always so paranoid about getting in the wrong car. I have a love hate relationship with them

This can be true. Remember these are just ordinary people who don’t receive any formal training like a taxi driver might. Best thing to do is include a note when you place your request explaining that you are blind and asking them to look for you. I usually say something like, “visually impaired — look for me with my white cane”

I use Lyft and have never had any problems. That said, if I’m going to or from some big event like a concert then I use both apps and just get whoever the hell can pick me up soonest lol. In those situations, you’re lucky to get anyone at a reasonable price that can be there within a half hour

I don't even know if we have lift in the UK. I've had problems with uber, but not major problems and not very regularly. I've heard some horror reviews so I can't discount them, but all the times I've ever had one of these issues the customer service has been top notch. This is only my experience and I've seen from the reviews that a lot of other people have a differing one.
synthpopolis2 points1y ago
Well and it’s worth keeping in mind that people tend to only say something when they have a negative experience, so reviews aren’t necessarily an accurate indication of the quality of service. I think most of the time people have a decent experience

I only used uber before Lyft. LOVED it. Then Lyft decided to bleed people dry by adopting the uber pricing model, and I have all but ceased to use them.

It’s the only way to get to my office when I have to go but lately they aren’t reliable due to so many people stopping driving with the pandemic. I had to wait 45 minutes to get a driver the last few times and scheduling ahead on Uber causes them to charge you almost double. I try to avoid them honestly but sometimes I can’t.
TechnicalPragmatist1 points1y ago
I have had no issues with either. The only real issue I’ve had is the pricing. That’s about it, I also have no issues with communications I wait until they find me or come up and say are you looking for a ride are you technical pragmatist, yes I am. Then I get in.

Lift is better. Uber drivers have been assholes more times than I can count.
