An app or machine for embossing Brill labels? (self.Blind)
submitted by ke7zum
Is there a thing i can use to let's say put what i want in an app then send it off to get put into sticky label tape or something so I can stick it onto the back of a business card? I have bad wrists so a labeler nor a gbrailler nor slate will work for doing this 100 times.

I basically want to somehow have my name on the back of a business card in braille. This is for a networking opportunity. You know how, and print, you can write or print out label stickers and stick them onto things. I want to do the same thing, but with clear label tape, or something.

I hope this makes sense. As stated above, I don’t have very good wrists so brailling my name 100 times, or squeezing it out on a braille labeler, it’s not going to work, at least not as efficiently, not if I want to be in less pain. Lol. I can also use a slate and stylus, but again, I can only do so much. And I want the label to look clean and not terribly cut. Otherwise, it wouldn’t matter. But this time, it does.

There’s no app, but when I was young there was a thing called a dynamo, in the uk there’s probably something better now. this one isn’t in stock at the moment, and it’s very expensive, but here you go: https://www.visionaid.co.uk/braille-label-maker

I also found a review of the Perkins style braille label maker. It’s expensive, but you get 10 rolls of tape, the machine itself, and some other things, which actually make the price worth it. The 10 rolls of tape alone would cost about $200. Lol. And the tape will probably last you forever. For those that have use the machine, what is the backspace key for. What if you make a mistake, I don’t think there is an erase function. Also how are you going to read what you labeled. The reviewer did not explain that well. But I still am very impressed, and that’s not like me to be impressed that easily.

I’d assume the backspace key is for cutting your labels. Or, it could be for going back one and then you do a four sign to indicate a mistake? I don’t know, maybe you can rub the mistake out within a errazor thing.

No, according to the review The key in the middle is to cut the label. The two keys and I left and right advanced the label forward in backward, but I didn’t really hear what happens if you make a mistake, which can happen.

Oh ok.

Oh, is it that 6 dot thing? Yeah the price went up but if the braille is going to be better than the squishy label thing, sorry I dunno the name of that, lol, It will be worth its weight in, green?

It would yeah.

You could send it to an embosser and then cut out each label after done.
ke7zum [OP] 1 points 1y ago
I could, but not with the already made cards from vista print, I don't think.

Why not if you just stick clear sticky labels on it?

I actually don’t have an embosser. So, that won’t even work at all. Which is I why am considering the portable LabelMaker that runs on batteries/AC power and includes an external USB type keyboard in case let’s say a family member wants to surprise me and label something. Which has happened before by the way.

Sounds fun that sounds like a nifty device.

There are many businesses that make business cards with Braille and print. National Braille Press, The Braille Bookstore, Access-USA. If you want to buy them already made.

Yeah I kind of don't. see prior comments above. My mom was the one that came up with the compramise but we both don't know how we will do this as she doesn't want me hurting myself, again, we don't want to overthink which we both tend to do, and I want to at least have my name on the back or something. Plus I don't know UEB and that's what most blind people read. At least my name will be there, and the person can use an app on their phone or a pair of eyes if needed. So, I'm not worried, btw I am totally blind myself. It is what it is though, and we work with what we have.

I ran A4 sheets of cards through my index embosser. Not a useful solution for sticky but maybe worth thingking about if you can get to them next time before they're cut.

Actually I am planning on creating mine via vista print. I love those guys and they created some other business cards that looked stunning. Besides 100 is like $30. not bad and should last me months.
