Questions about blind people and smokeless tobaccos (self.Blind)

I honestly think that it has more to do with disabled people, especially blind people, being treated like children. I picked up smoking in high school because I could sneak around and smoke without my parents being aware I was gone, and my friends smoked.

On the other hand, as soon as I became blind, I was constantly watched by my mother, like I was a little baby deer instead of an adult. She also would never drive me to the store to buy cigarettes, and I didn't live within a comfortable walking distance.

For what it's worth, all the blind people I know who use any variety of nicotine use either vapes or cigarettes, and I've only ever known like 3-5 people, sighted only, who use smokeless tobacco. It's not that bad, but it is inconvenient to want to spit and not be able to without seeming gross.

I'm sure that's a big reason... I understand because my parents really hate me smoking. (sorry, mom!)

Um, so... did you feel that smoking has changed a lot since you became blind? Or did you just feel that there was no difference?

Other than cigarettes nearly doubling in price from 2012 when I was a daily smoker to 2014 when I picked the habit back up for a couple months, honestly, not a huge difference. I wasn't smoking to stare at the smoke or because I thought it tasted good, I smoked for the blast of calm a cigarette could give me.

Got it! thx! I think what I heard was an urban legend...

smokeless tobacco is rare (like seriously rare, it's the sort of thing you'd have to order online from specialist stores) in the UK. I'm totally blind and a smoker, though I've cut down massively now and mainly vape. It had nothing to do with a lack of pleasure from smoking however, vaping is just cheaper.

Indeed, smokeless tobaccos are really hard to get. In fact, everyone has different tastes.

If you have a chance to try smokeless tobacco, please remember this post and leave a comment! haha

Hmmm I don’t know really . It would be interesting if someone investigated this correlation for sure .
But i happen to be surround by a lot of blind people , and I’ve noticed the people who have the least eyesight smoke more haha
I live in Spain , and smoking is quite common anyway .

Got it, It's different from what I've seen... but I'm sure blind people will be more stressed than others, so I think they will smoke often.

Not necessarily. Blind people are stressed or not stressed like everyone else. In other words, we are individuals.

Ah... your words shocked me a lot.

Yeah, we're all the same people, no different. I try to act like that, but sometimes I make a slip of the tongue...

I'm so sorry if I offended you.

Oh no, I’m not offended :) I just wanted to remind you.

Smokers get a dopamine rush off those first hits, don't kid yourself. I had a coworker who'd go out and get that buzz, come back all happy, make some calls and sell stuff. Damn.

I was envious and took up nicotine gum thinking it was safe, only to realize it probably aggravated my incipient macular degeneration.

Well, I came to this idea because lighting a cigarette was an inefficient act in the Middle Ages.

First, you had to use flint to light a cigarette, and if you smoke by getting nicotine, you'll waste a lot of tobacco leaves. My opinion is that if you wanted to get nicotine and hit, might as well just chew a cigarette is good choice in the Middle Ages.

Nevertheless, I heard this story while looking for the reason why people smoked since the Middle Ages.

p.s I'm a heavy smoker, and I'd recommend never smoking... Damn, I can't quit smoking!

Most the world didn't have tobacco until the discovery of the New World.
