Setting basic HTML as default view in GMail?(self.Blind)
submitted by Nighthawk321
I know many screen reader users that use GMail prefer to use basic HTML, but sometimes GMail reverts back to standard view. It's been so long that I can't remember how to set it back to basic HTML. Does anyone remember how to do this? Thanks!

Yeah, good question. I am a grant writer and almost screwed a lot of stuff up because of the horrible inaccessability of the new interface. Google should have knew better, and even beta tested accessibility and use with google accessibility testers for months and months. Used to be where I could access basic html on Edge, but as of a few weeks ago there is no option to switch. It is by far one of the most ridiculous interfaces I've ever put a screen reader on.

Emails created through the basic HTML interface are sent as plain text, meaning that they look unprofessional.
Is there a reason that you don't use an email client such as Outlook or Thunderbird?

They're just kind of clunky. I had no idea that they came through as plain text either. Very interesting.

I find thunderbird to be fantastic for accessability

do you mind if I ask you a few questions regarding Thunderbird?

I like it, but I don’t like how it doesn’t filter out my spam and that it’s difficult to set up a signature. I also use multiple devices, so not sure if there’s a way to transfer my configuration

If you're using through the web browser, you can go to this link that is a portal to open directly Gmail in HTML. There is 2 links: one to the latest, one to HTML Gmail.
