Dry macular degeneration can be very slow progressing at times and quitting tobacco is the BEST thing you can do for it.
Taking AREDS 2 vitamins will help slow the degeneration down.
Get an amsler grid and tape it to your fridge and check it everyday for any abnormalities or distortions.
This helps you make sure that any changes that happen YOU will be able to detect first.
Also keep up with regular exams with an ophthalmologist and have them refer you to a retina specialist IF there’s ever any significant changes.

Has your doctor recommended amber sunglasses? That is one of the common recommendations. They may also suggest ocular vitamins to help delay it. but check with your doctor if those are right for you.

In my case, it took 10-12 years from first symptoms until I quit driving a car. Another two years passed before I was legally blind. However even now I still can read with a strong light and difficulty. The good news is that peripheral vision is not much affected, so walking around is not much of an issue. The biggest problem I had in the early years as I developed "holes" in my vision was not seeing small thing, like traffic lights. Be careful.

How old were you if you don’t mind me asking? I do have 20/20 vision at the moment and no symptoms what so ever.
