The Seeing Eye (self.Blind)
submitted by Snookerdee3
Does anyone here have experience with the seeing eye? I am considering them as my Choice of guide dog school and would like to hear peoples experiences. Also would be interested to know what kind of post graduation benefits they offer if any at all.

Love the fact that I own my dog, but post graduation support can be tough if you live outside the New England area unless they've restaffed in recent years. You had to wait until enough people in your area needed help, and that could be months. Then, you only got an afternoon or a couple days of support. Also, ask about their training methods. Are they still only using negative reinforcement like prong collars? I loved my instructor, and the time at the school was great.

I've had one guide dog so far and I got him from the Seeing Eye. He was very well trained, we had a great instructor, and the food and accommodations were fantastic! I highly recommend the Seeing eye.

They did send somebody out twice to give us a hand and do a general evaluation when I moved a couple of times so that was nice. They did not help with vet bills however so please keep that in mind. On the flip side though, you actually own your dog. I believe that is not the case with every guide dog school. Before we left the school, he had all his vaccinations and was microchipped.

I loved the Seeing Eye, currently have my first dog from there. However, I do not think I'll be going back. From what I've gathered, I've noticed guide dogs from other schools tend to be a little bit more advanced in the things they are taught. Also not a fan of how difficult it is to even talk on the phone with an instructor; you have to call, tell them you need to talk to an instructor, and then wait for them to call you back with no ETA.
