steam help (self.Blind)
submitted by zeabart93
A friend of mine wants to use steam to try out some video games but JAWs doesn't work with steam. Was hoping someone could reccomend a screen reader that would work with steam.

Hoo boy, get ready for a wild ride.

First, start by acquiring some of your legal depressant of choice. I quite fancy rum and coke. Next, prepare your best arsenal of profanity and clear any young children from the area.

Thirdly, follow this guide, preferably with NVDA, $1

As a regular user of Steam and streamer, I will say, it's a royal pain, but it is doable. feel free to send me a PM (no live chats please. I can't read those) if you need help. That said, I did this with NVDA and not JAWS, so I can't speak to the JAWS procedure.

This isn't an answer to your question, but I hope your friend knows that extremely few of the games on Steam are accessible.

We're aware... he's had success playing third person games. He's recently beat pokemon arceus.

I’m an NVDA user, please, if you can see, make sure steam’s in English.

I have to use an NVDA translator when I want to translate the application because every time I try to install it and click on English, it doesn’t actually install in English.
